Donor Report

FY 2025-2026

To Our Donors and Supporters

HAVEN’s Board of Directors and Leadership Team are pleased to provide you, our valued donors and supporters, with an update on our services and how your contributions have been used to serve survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in our community.

During the 2025-2026 fiscal year, HAVEN provided a wide range of services, including help filing legal documents, support groups, shelter services, trauma support, and prevention services for high school students. These direct services were provided to 2,980 individuals in the community. HAVEN staff meet these community needs at 5 locations in the County. In addition, staff provided outreach and information about HAVEN’s services at 31 community events.

HAVEN continues to serve all affected residents of the County, regardless of age, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, immigration status, or income. All these services are free of charge.

Funding

Haven had a budget of $3,464,545 for FY 2025-2026 and relied on a variety of funding sources to support our services. As the graph shows, most funds come from grants from Federal, state, and local government sources and private foundations. Grant funding is specific and, at times, limited in how it can be used. They also intentionally do not cover all costs of specific services and expect agencies to raise the necessary funds from the community. Grants are also time-limited and can be unpredictable as funders' priorities change. For this reason, the generosity of our donors, event sponsors, and supporters is and will continue to be important for sustainability.

$3,453,474

The majority of HAVEN’s budget goes to staffing and expenses related to personnel. Expenditures this fiscal year totaled $3,453,474. As the graph shows there are also expenses related to maintaining the shelter and offices in both Modesto and Turlock.

The Power of In-Kind Contributions & Volunteers

Not all contributions are monetary. HAVEN also receives many in-kind donations. These may include toys and gifts for our holiday workshop, helping survivors give their children a more normal December holiday season. We have also benefited from specific drives by local community groups and employers that provide personal care products, towels and linens for shelter residents, and clothing for survivors and their children.

Haven’s shelter has benefited from the generous donation of time and talent by the Tuolume River Woodworkers Association. They have provided their skills and expertise in doing repairs and maintenance of our shelter.

Volunteers are an important part of a nonprofit’s operations. HAVEN has direct-service volunteers who have completed 80 hours of training to qualify as Trauma Response Advocates. This year, the Board has initiated Friends of HAVEN volunteers, community members committed to assisting with fund development activities, events, and program support tasks.

Positioning Ourselves for the Future

In 2023, we lost one of our founders, Yvonne Allen. She generously left the bulk of her estate to HAVEN. Upon accepting this bequest, the board of directors determined the most prudent use of these funds was to establish an account to help ensure a consistent stream of funds to help cover expenses not funded by grants. The $800,000 was invested with the Stanislaus Community Foundation. Going forward, the board will seek additional funding to build this sustainability fund.

Governing Board

As we enter FY2026-2027, HAVEN’s board is dedicated to fulfilling our fiduciary, oversight, and fund development responsibilities. We bring a wealth of perspectives, including healthcare, small business, non-profits, education, and the law. Members also bring the perspective of survivors, the LGBTQ community, a variety of ages, and ethnic communities.

Going forward, the Board and all of HAVEN’s staff and volunteers are committed to serving the survivors in our community. Thank you for your continuing support.
